Video Editing
Obviously the way that your original footage is filmed is important and no amount of editing can turn badly filmed footage into a cinematic masterpiece! However, all things being equal it is video editing that breathes life into your footage. Creative video editing turns a series of often disconnected clips into an engaging and entertaining story.
It is almost impossible to overstate the importance of the skill of the editor in this important stage. More than anything it is what makes our video productions so special and differentiates us from the average video.
A distinctive approach to video editing
We have a fresh, distinctive approach to video editing, using a fusion of traditional and contemporary techniques and effects to create a stylish, modern look to your video or film. One thing you can be sure of; we certainly don't use cheesy effects such as page curls, fly-away spheres and checkered transitions. These tacky and outdated effects have no place in a modern video - yuck!
State-Of-The-Art
All our video editing is done on a state-of-the-art editing suite running the very latest software plus several advanced plug-ins as well as motion graphics software (After Effects). I mention this not to impress, although we are quite proud of it! The reason I mention it is because it opens up an extremely wide range of possibilities for your video. It means that that only your imagination (and budget) limits what can be done.
So what does it cost?
As far as pricing is concerned it really is like asking how long is a piece of string? The amount of time spent on a video edit really depends on how much you want to spend and how long it will take us to do the edit. A typical wedding video can take 3-5 days, whilst a major Hollywood film can takes months to edit! Generally, the tighter the 'brief' that we are given for the project, the quicker we can do the edit.
We try to keep our prices as reasonable as we can by offering different levels of editing; standard and advanced.
Standard Video Edit
Ok, so what's involved in a standard edit? First we have to get the footage into the edit suite. If the source material is tape-based this has to been done in real time - so 4 hours of footage means 4 hours of capture time! We review the footage at the same time so we know what we are dealing with.
Each clip is 'trimmed' to the required length, colour corrected if necessary and audio balanced. The selected clips are then arranged in the right order on the timeline. We add titles, credits and a background soundtrack where applicable. We finish off with standard effects such as fades, dissolved, black& white and slow motion. The completed edit is then further encoded to a format of your choice (DVD, Blu-ray, Internet). This is the type of edit seen on most popular documentary style TV programs.
Advanced Video Edit
Extra time is invested to create a more 'cinematic or filmic' look or style. The advanced edit takes over where the standard stops. There are many options for this style of video editing including animated motion graphics and titles using 'After Effects'. We can also include a vast range of advanced effects and techniques including, amongst others, colour grading, cine simulation, light leaks and flashes, time shifting, speed changes, audio overlays and posterisation. These are the sort of effects seen all the time at the cinema, music videos and TV programs like Top Gear.
Video Encoding & Video Transfers
Alongside our video editing we also offer video encoding from standard footage to Internet-ready Flash / MP4. Encoding to DVD MPEG or Blu-ray H.264, as well as Ipad or Iphone. Indeed almost any format you are looking for. Prices start from £20 per hour of original footage and include initial capture into our system and encoding.
We can also offer video transfers from VHS to DVD. Prices start from £10 per hour of original footage
